Cowpea is also known as black eye beans because of the small dot that looks like an eye. Commonly referred as lobia, chawli in India, it is soft textured & pale in color. It is used in preparations like dal, curries and salads. This crop grows in semi-arid regions and needs less water to grow and so this is widely used in Africa and other warm countries.
